Frequently Asked Questions

If your question is not answered here, please feel free to email us at: writersringtamu@gmail.com

Who can join Writers’ Ring?

Texas A&M University undergraduate and graduate students.

When does Writers’ Ring meet?

We meet bi-weekly on Mondays from 8 PM - 9 PM over zoom.

How do the meetings work?

Club members will submit the creative works that they would like to be workshopped into the Writers' Ring's shared google drive on the Sunday before the meeting. Club members will read the works submitted before the meeting on Monday. Then, the submissions will be workshopped during the meeting.

What does "workshopping" entail?

Well, everyone will read the author's creative writing first. Then, we will open up the group to discuss what they thought the work was about and what they thought was done well. Then, everyone will be able to make suggestions about the work. (Maybe there are some things that need clarification or the wording of a sentence made it sound funky.) Finally, we will bring in the author and open up the group to ask the author questions about their work.

Does this mean that everyone in the club can read my work?

Yes! It is good to have other people read your work. Having the other club members read your work is how they are able to give you useful feedback on your work.

If my creative writing is the one being workshopped during the meeting, am I able to partake in the workshop process?

Absolutely! During the first two parts of the workshopping process, the author will remain silent, taking in the perspectives and suggestions of other group members. During the third part of the workshopping process, the author will be free to answer questions that either members had about their work. They will also be able to ask other club members if aspects of their work were taken a certain way, if they should change the wording of a few sentences, and other general questions that they may have and want feedback on.

Is workshopping the only thing Writers' Ring does?

No. Along with workshops, we also watch videos relating to the writing process, answer writing prompts, talk about how to better our writing, and occasionally have guest speakers come give advice to our club members.

Do I have to submit a piece of creative writing in order to be in Writers’ Ring?

No. You can join Writers' Ring and just help workshop other member's work. We would love it if you did submit something to be workshopped, but it is not required.

How do I submit my creative writing to be workshopped?

- You will need to email Writers' Ring and inquire about submissions and club enrollment. From there, you will be added to a google drive where you can upload your work for the next meeting.

Who has access to the google drive?

Club members are the only people who have access to the google drive. That said, it is a smart to create backups of your works.

Are their guidelines for submissions?

Yes, they can be found at the bottom of this page.

How does Writers’ Ring publish works?

Writers' Ring publishes final drafts of creative works that have been workshopped by members with author approval.

Do I have to be in Writers’ Ring in order to be published?

Yes.

If I accept and have my work published on Writers’ Ring, can I send it out to other literary magazines, publishing companies, etc?

No. Writers' Ring adheres to U.S. publishing laws and regulations. You cannot have creative works published by two different entities.

Will every piece workshopped be published on Writers’ Ring?

No. Publishing will be done on a case-by-case basis. Not every work will be asked to be published on Writers' Ring.

Who manages which final drafts of workshopped pieces will be published?

Writers' Ring officers and sponsor.

Can I submit my creative work with no intention of having it published?

Yes.

Who is Writers’ Ring sponsor?
